Blue Vintage Glow

In this tutorial, we will be making this picture manipulation (Click for enlarged view), on Photoshop CS3.

You can use the picture I am using, or your own if you want.

Step One

First, make a new fill layer with a light blue color, #99dfdd.

Set this layer to darken.

Merge layers.

Step Two

Make a new fill layer.

Fill this layer with #2e2e2e

Place this layer underneath the picture, and set the picture to lighten.

Merge layers.

Step Three

Now, make a new fill layer, and fill it with the color, #efdfbe

Set this layer to softlight.

Merge layers.

Step Four

Now, make a new fill layer and fill it with a dark gray color, such as #2a2929

Set this layer to lighten.

Step Five

Duplicate the layer with the picture on it, and set it to screen.

Now, duplicate that layer, and set it to overlay.

Delete the original picture.

Merge layers.

Step Six

Here comes the fun part. Duplicate the base, and go to Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur.

Set the radius to 5.0.

Now, set the blurred layer to softlight.

Step Seven

There is probably waaay too much yellow in the picture. If there is, continue with this step, if not, skip this step.

Go to Layer>New Adjustment Layer>Selective Color.

Where it says Reds, pull down to Yellows.

Now, change the Yellow field from 0, to -50.

Voila, you are done!!! Your picture should look like the one above. If you want to add some more decorative extras, follow the Extra Touches step.

Extra Touches

If you want, make a new fill layer and fill it with either white or black.

Control+A to select the entire document, and then go to Select>Modify>Contract. Change width to 10 pixels, and click OK.

Now, delete.

Set this layer to overlay, and change the opacity if you wish.

Control+A, again, and go to Select>Modify>Contract. Change to 1 pixel.

Now, go to Edit>Stroke, change to 1 pixel, and make the color #d2d2d2.

Merge all layers if you haven't already, and sharpen.

This is my result.
